a culinary leap.

now, as you may or may not know, it is quite possible that i am the pickiest eater on the planet. my boyfriend, ryan, however, is the most adventurous eater i have ever seen. anything and everything goes in his mouth. not to mention the gallon of hot sauce he dumps on top. maybe it's his korean heritage or maybe he's just bat-shit crazy, but either way, we differ when it comes to food.

now, i have eaten traditional indian food once. it was this past spring at a traditional indian wedding in daytona.

actual food eaten by me:

doesn't it look scary???

needless to say, i was not impressed. it was painful. curry and saphron have never really tasted that great to me, but i was there, and i tried it. yes. i tried it, and i vowed to never eat it again.

so last night, we were going out to dinner, and ryan suggests indian food. eeek! no! kill me now!! never!! never again!!! this was my internal dialogue. but for some reason, i've been feeling guilty about my not so cultured palate when it comes to ethnic cuisine, and in a bout of temporary insanity, i agreed.

we went to this little place off clairmont called bhojanic. it just so happened, they had a 2$ tapas special which was great, so we ordered several tapas. we shared an entree of one meat and two veggies, and i topped it all off with a few glasses of a great shiraz temperanillo blend.

and guess what?

drumroll.....

I LOVED IT.

go figure. i was thinking that perhaps the food was milder, catered to an american clientele, but ryan assured me that the food tasted authentic. so there you have it. i have no idea why i loved it this time, but i did, and i will go back. so i guess the moral of the story is to keep an open mind about things. i did, and i scored a delicious dinner i never even thought i could have enjoyed before.

Indian food is just like beer or wine. There's a type of curry for everyone. Seems like you've found it. ;)
